NAT Type on PS5 affects your ability to connect to other players online. Type 1 is open (best), Type 2 is moderate (good), and Type 3 is strict (causes connection issues). To check your NAT Type go to Settings → Network → Test Internet Connection — your NAT Type is displayed in the results. To fix a strict NAT Type (Type 3) try the following:
Enable UPnP on your router — log into your router settings (usually at 192.168.1.1 in your browser), find the UPnP setting and enable it. This is the easiest fix and resolves NAT Type 3 in most cases. Restart your router and PS5 after enabling.
Set up port forwarding — if UPnP doesn't help, manually forward these ports to your PS5's local IP address: TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 and UDP: 3478, 3479
Set a static IP for your PS5 — go to Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection → Advanced Settings and manually assign an IP address to your PS5 so your router always recognizes it correctly
Use a wired connection — connecting via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi can improve NAT Type stability
After making any router changes, restart both your router and PS5 and run the connection test again to confirm your NAT Type has improved.
