How to Fix "The Voucher Code Has Already Been Redeemed" PlayStation Error

4 min read

You enter a code on PlayStation Store and get: "The voucher code has already been redeemed." Before contacting anyone — check your transaction history first. This error sometimes shows even when the code actually worked. The content may already be on your account.
Quick Fix
Check your PSN Transaction History BEFORE assuming the code was stolen. PS5/PS4 → Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Transaction History. If the code shows up there, it worked — check your Library for the game or your wallet balance for funds. Only contact the seller if the code isn't in your history OR any other account you own.
Step 1: Check Your Transaction History
PlayStation voucher codes can only be used once. If you see this error, the first thing to do is confirm whether the code was already redeemed — either by you previously, or by someone else. Check in two places:
Info
Why does PSN sometimes show this error when the code worked? PSN's redemption system is split into two parts — the wallet/library update (which adds content to your account) and the confirmation response (which tells your console it worked). If the response times out but the database update completed, you get this error even though the redemption succeeded. This is why checking Transaction History FIRST saves time vs blindly contacting the seller.
Check if the code was already redeemed to your account
- 01On PS5: Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Transaction History. Look for the game, wallet funding, or subscription. If it's listed there — the code worked. Check your Library for games or your wallet balance for funds.
- 02On PS4: Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Transaction History. Same as above — look for the redeemed content.
- 03On the web: Sign into account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com, go to Transaction History. Wallet top-ups show as "Wallet Funding" and game/subscription codes show as the product name.
- 04Also check your Library for any games that may have been added, and check whether a subscription like PS Plus is now active. If the content is there — the code worked despite showing an error. You're done.
Tip
Search Transaction History by date + amount, not by product name. If your PSN wallet balance or subscription status changed recently, look for a transaction matching the code's value. Product names in Transaction History sometimes appear as SKU codes rather than the actual game name — searching by amount is more reliable.
The Code Was Redeemed on a Different Account
If the code doesn't appear in your transaction history, it may have been redeemed on a different PSN account. This happens when: - You have multiple PSN accounts and accidentally signed into the wrong one previously
- Someone else in your household used the code on their account
- The code was already used by someone before you received it — common with codes from lower-quality gray market sellers
Warning
It is NOT possible to transfer a redeemed code or content between PSN accounts. Sony Support cannot move content from one account to another — not even between accounts you own yourself. If you accidentally redeemed on the wrong account, the content stays on that account forever. This is a hard Sony policy with zero exceptions.
Check the transaction history on every PSN account associated with your consoles. On PS5 and PS4 you can switch accounts in Settings → Users and Accounts.
The Code Was Used Before You Received It
If the code doesn't appear on any of your accounts, it was most likely used by someone else before you received it. This means the seller sent you an already-used code — whether by mistake or deliberately.
What to do: - Contact the seller immediately with your order confirmation and a screenshot of the error. Any legitimate seller will investigate and replace the code or refund you.
- If the seller won't help, dispute the charge with your bank or PayPal as "item not as described." A code that was already used before delivery is a clear-cut case.
- Contact PlayStation Support at playstation.com/support — while they cannot restore a code redeemed on another account, they can confirm when and whether it was used, which helps as evidence with the seller or your bank.
Warning
Don't wait too long to dispute. PayPal allows disputes up to 180 days after the transaction. Most credit cards allow 60-120 days via chargeback. Marketplace policies are usually stricter — typically 7-14 days. If the seller is ghosting you, open a payment dispute immediately rather than waiting and hoping they'll respond.
