How to Fix "The Voucher Code Is Incorrect or Is No Longer Valid" PlayStation Error
1 view4 min read

You try to redeem a code on PlayStation Store and get: "The voucher code is incorrect or is no longer valid." This is PlayStation's most common code error and it covers several different causes. This guide walks you through all of them in order so you can find your fix fast.
Reason 1: Typo in the Code
The most common cause. PSN voucher codes are 12 characters long and easy to misread, especially when scratching a physical card. Watch out for these common mix-ups:
- 0 (zero) and O (letter O)
- 1 (one) and I (capital i) or l (lowercase L)
- 2 and Z
Reason 2: Wrong Region
PSN voucher codes are region-locked. A US code will not work on a UK account. A UK code will not work on a US account. There is no workaround — PlayStation does not allow region transfers and Sony Support cannot override this.
How to check your account region:
- On PS5: Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Country/Region
- On PS4: Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Country/Region
- On the web: Sign into account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com and check your account details
Reason 3: The Code Has Expired
Some PSN voucher codes — especially promotional codes, pre-order bonuses, and bundle codes — have an expiry date. Standard wallet top-up cards and PS Plus subscription codes generally do not expire, but promotional codes often expire 6–12 months after issue.
Check the physical card, your order confirmation email, or the seller's listing for an expiry date. If the code has expired, contact the seller or PlayStation Support with proof of purchase — they may be able to issue a replacement.
Reason 4: The Code Was Not Activated by the Retailer
Physical PSN gift cards must be activated at the point of sale by the cashier. If the cashier forgot to activate it — or had a system error — the code will show as invalid even though the card looks perfectly fine.
If you have a physical card that won't work, go back to the retailer with your receipt and ask them to verify activation. Most retailers can check and activate it on the spot. If the card was bought online and shows as invalid, contact the seller's support.
Reason 5: Code Already Used or Fraudulent
If you've carefully re-entered the code and confirmed it's the right region, the code may have been used by someone else before you received it. This is more common with codes from lower-quality gray market sellers.
Before contacting the seller, check your own transaction history first — you may have already redeemed it without realising:
- PS5/PS4: Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Transaction History
- Web: Sign into account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com → Transaction History
Reason 6: Wrong Account
Make sure you are signed into the correct PSN account when redeeming. If you have multiple accounts — for example, a main account and a child account, or accounts for different regions — you may be signed into the wrong one. Sign out and back into the correct account before trying again.
How to Redeem a PSN Code — Step by Step
Redeem your PSN code correctly
- On PS5: Go to the PlayStation Store from the home menu. Press the three dots (...) at the top of the screen, then select "Redeem Codes." Enter your 12-character code and press Continue.

- On PS4: Go to the PlayStation Store. Scroll down in the left menu and select "Redeem Codes." Enter your 12-character code and press Continue.

- On the web: Go to store.playstation.com, sign in, click your profile icon in the top right, then select "Redeem Code." Enter your code and click Continue.

Still Not Working?
If none of the above applies and the code still won't work, try:
- Check the PlayStation Network Status page for any outages — redemptions fail during maintenance
- Sign out of PSN completely, restart your console, and sign back in before trying again
- Try redeeming on the web at store.playstation.com instead of the console
- Contact PlayStation Support with proof of purchase — they can verify the code's status
