How to Fix Epic Games Launcher Not Opening (Step-by-Step Guide)
How to fix Epic Games Launcher not opening on PC 2026

You click the Epic Games Launcher and nothing happens — or it flashes and disappears. Here are all the fixes in order, from quickest to most thorough. Work through them one by one until it opens.

Fix 1 — End All Epic Processes in Task Manager

The most common reason the launcher won't open is that it's already running in the background but not showing on screen. Ending all Epic processes forces a clean restart.
  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  2. In the Processes tab, look for EpicGamesLauncher and any other Epic-related processes
  3. Right-click each one and select End Task
  4. Close Task Manager and try opening the launcher again

Fix 2 — Run as Administrator

Sometimes the launcher needs administrator permissions to open correctly.
  1. Right-click the Epic Games Launcher icon on your desktop or in the Start Menu
  2. Select Run as administrator
  3. Click Yes if Windows asks for permission
If this fixes the issue and you want it to always run as admin: right-click the icon → Properties → Compatibility tab → check "Run this program as an administrator" → Apply → OK.

Fix 3 — Clear the Launcher Web Cache

A corrupted web cache is one of the most common causes of the launcher not opening. Clearing it forces the launcher to rebuild fresh cache files.
  1. Make sure the Epic Games Launcher is fully closed — end all Epic processes in Task Manager first (see Fix 1)
  2. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog
  3. Type %localappdata% and press Enter
  4. Find and open the EpicGamesLauncher folder
  5. Open the Saved folder inside it
  6. Right-click the webcache folder and select Delete
  7. Restart your PC and try opening the launcher again
Deleting the webcache folder will not affect your game progress, saves, or library.

Fix 4 — Repair the Epic Games Launcher

Windows has a built-in repair function that can fix corrupted launcher files without reinstalling.
  1. Press Windows + R and type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open Programs and Features
  2. Find Epic Games Launcher in the list
  3. Right-click it and select Repair
  4. Wait for Windows to complete the repair process
  5. Try opening the launcher again
Alternatively on Windows 11: go to Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → Epic Games Launcher → Advanced Options → Repair.

Fix 5 — Disable Antivirus / Add Epic as Exception

Your antivirus or Windows Defender may be blocking the Epic Games Launcher from opening. Temporarily disable your antivirus and try launching Epic. If it opens, add Epic Games Launcher as an exception in your antivirus settings so it isn't blocked in future. To add an exclusion in Windows Defender:
  1. Open Windows Security
  2. Go to Virus & Threat Protection → Manage Settings
  3. Scroll down to Exclusions → Add or remove exclusions
  4. Add the Epic Games Launcher folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games

Fix 6 — Reinstall the Epic Games Launcher

If none of the above works, reinstalling the launcher is the most reliable final fix. Your games are stored separately and will not be deleted if you install your games to a folder outside the default Epic Games directory.
  1. Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter
  2. Find Epic Games Launcher, right-click and select Uninstall
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstall
  4. Go to store.epicgames.com/download and download the latest installer
  5. Install and sign in to your account — your library will reappear automatically
