Everything Coming to Xbox Game Pass in May 2026

Everything coming to Xbox Game Pass in May 2026 Forza Horizon 6 Subnautica 2 Mixtape day one

After the Game Pass Ultimate price drop last month, Xbox needed a stacked May to convince doubters they made the right call — and they delivered. Nine games are confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in May 2026, eight of them brand-new day-one releases, headlined by Forza Horizon 6 on May 19 and Subnautica 2 Early Access on May 14. Toss in the Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster hitting Premium-tier subscribers on May 5, and this is genuinely one of the strongest single-month lineups Game Pass has had since launch. Here's the full schedule, what each game is, and which ones are actually worth your time.

The Full May 2026 Schedule

Every game confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in May 2026, in chronological release order:
  • May 5 — Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster (Console, PC, Cloud) — Premium tier included
  • May 7 — Mixtape (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one
  • May 12 — Call of the Elder Gods (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one
  • May 14 — Subnautica 2 Early Access (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one via Xbox Game Preview
  • May 19 — Forza Horizon 6 (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one ⭐
  • May 21 — Beastro (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one
  • May 27 — Echo Generation 2 (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one
  • May 28 — Crashout Crew (Console, PC, Cloud) — Day one
  • TBA May — RV There Yet? (Console, PC, Cloud)
Tier note: All eight day-one releases are exclusive to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Subscribers on the lower Premium tier only get Final Fantasy V from this month's lineup. Essential tier subscribers get nothing new from this list. Microsoft will likely add more catalog titles to the lower tiers throughout the month — check back as they're announced.

Forza Horizon 6 — May 19, the Day One Headliner

This is THE reason to be subscribed in May. Forza Horizon 6 launches as a day-one Game Pass title on May 19, 2026 — and after years of fan requests, the entire game is set in Japan. Mount Fuji, neon-soaked Tokyo nights, the Setouchi coastline, mountain passes through Hakone — Playground Games has finally taken the festival to the location that's topped fan polls since Forza Horizon 4. A few things to know:
  • Engine: Built on the new ForzaTech 2026 engine with full ray-traced lighting and dynamic weather
  • Vehicle count: 750+ cars at launch with the largest motorcycle roster in series history
  • Cover car: The 2025 Toyota GR GT Prototype, alongside the iconic 1974 Lancia Stratos HF
  • Map size: Roughly 1.4× the size of the Mexico map from Forza Horizon 5
For Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscribers, this game alone justifies the entire month's subscription cost. Full retail price is $69.99 — Game Pass Ultimate at $22.99/month means you're getting Forza Horizon 6 plus the rest of the catalog for less than half what the game costs on its own.

Subnautica 2 Early Access — May 14, the Other Big One

The other massive day-one drop this month is Subnautica 2, launching into Xbox Game Preview Early Access on May 14, 2026 — surviving a genuinely chaotic development cycle that included a legal battle between Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton, the firing and court-ordered reinstatement of CEO Ted Gill, and multiple delays. A few important caveats:
  • It's Early Access, not a 1.0 release. Unknown Worlds estimates Subnautica 2 will stay in Early Access for 2-3 years before reaching full launch (likely 2027-2028)
  • Four-player co-op is in from day one — the biggest design change from the first two games
  • No microtransactions, ever — Unknown Worlds has formally committed: no battle pass, no season pass, no loot boxes, no microtransactions of any kind
  • Game Pass status after 1.0 isn't confirmed — Microsoft and Krafton have not announced whether Subnautica 2 stays on Game Pass after the full release. Don't assume it does.
For Game Pass subscribers this is essentially free to try. Standalone Early Access pricing hasn't been announced as of early May, but the franchise has historically been priced lower in EA than at full release. If you're on the fence about the franchise, jumping in via Game Pass is a no-risk way to experience the early build.

The Other Seven — Quick Verdict on Each

Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster (May 5) — The classic SNES JRPG gets the now-standard pixel remaster treatment Square Enix has been rolling out across the Final Fantasy back-catalogue. The strongest of the early FFs in terms of job system depth. Notably, this is the only May addition that hits the Premium tier — so if you're on Premium and haven't played the FF Pixel Remasters yet, this is your one for the month. Mixtape (May 7) — Narrative coming-of-age adventure following three friends on their last night together, set to a curated soundtrack of generation-defining music. From the developer behind Sayonara Wild Hearts. Expect a 3-4 hour cinematic experience — the Twin Mirror / Life Is Strange crowd will love this. Call of the Elder Gods (May 12) — Lovecraftian-themed action game with strong indie cred. Day-one Game Pass means zero risk to try. Beastro (May 21) — Action game with details still emerging — Microsoft confirmed it as part of the Wave 2 May lineup but hasn't dropped a full preview yet. Worth a look once gameplay footage drops. Echo Generation 2 (May 27) — Sequel to the well-received Stranger Things-inspired turn-based RPG. If you played and enjoyed the original, this is a no-brainer. Crashout Crew (May 28) — Multiplayer racing game closing out the month. Good co-op pick if you've got friends on Game Pass. RV There Yet? (TBA May) — Casual / cozy game, no specific date locked in. Lighter pick for when you need a chill option between the bigger games.

The Verdict — Best Single-Month Lineup of 2026 So Far

For Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscribers, May 2026 is genuinely the strongest month the service has had this year. Forza Horizon 6 alone (worth $69.99 retail) saves you more than three months of Ultimate subscription. Subnautica 2 Early Access — even with the Early Access caveat — is the kind of game that easily eats 40-60 hours. Mixtape and Echo Generation 2 add narrative weight. Final Fantasy V keeps the Premium tier from being completely left out. If you've been on the fence about subscribing — or were considering cancelling after the price drama — this is the month to be in. If you're already subscribed, you're getting genuinely outstanding value. Got Game Pass questions or want help picking the right tier? Hit our live chat and we'll set you up.
