Nine games are confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in May 2026, eight of them brand-new day-one releases, headlined by Forza Horizon 6 on May 19 and Subnautica 2 Early Access on May 14. Toss in the Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster hitting Premium-tier subscribers on May 5, and this is genuinely one of the strongest single-month lineups Game Pass has had since launch. Forza Horizon 6 — May 19, the Day One Headliner

This is THE reason to be subscribed in May. Forza Horizon 6 launches as a day-one Game Pass title on May 19, 2026 — and after years of fan requests, the entire game is set in Japan. Mount Fuji, neon-soaked Tokyo nights, the Setouchi coastline, mountain passes through Hakone — Playground Games has finally taken the festival to the location that's topped fan polls since Forza Horizon 4. Subnautica 2 Early Access — May 14, the Other Big One

The other massive day-one drop this month is Subnautica 2, launching into Xbox Game Preview Early Access on May 14, 2026 — surviving a genuinely chaotic development cycle that included a legal battle between Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton, the firing and court-ordered reinstatement of CEO Ted Gill, and multiple delays. A few important caveats:

• It's Early Access, not a 1.0 release. Unknown Worlds estimates Subnautica 2 will stay in Early Access for 2-3 years before reaching full launch (likely 2027-2028)
• Four-player co-op is in from day one — the biggest design change from the first two games
• No microtransactions, ever — Unknown Worlds has formally committed: no battle pass, no season pass, no loot boxes, no microtransactions of any kind
• Game Pass status after 1.0 isn't confirmed — Microsoft and Krafton have not announced whether Subnautica 2 stays on Game Pass after the full release. Don't assume it does.

For Game Pass subscribers this is essentially free to try. Standalone Early Access pricing hasn't been announced as of early May, but the franchise has historically been priced lower in EA than at full release. Subnautica 2 Early Access — even with the Early Access caveat — is the kind of game that easily eats 40-60 hours. Mixtape and Echo Generation 2 add narrative weight.
