How to Redeem an Xbox Gift Card — Every Method (Console, Web, PC & App)

1 view3 min read
Just got an Xbox gift card or Microsoft Store code? Here's how to redeem it on every platform. Xbox gift cards and Microsoft gift cards work the same way — once redeemed, the balance is added to your Microsoft account and can be spent on games, DLC, Game Pass subscriptions, and more across both Xbox and Windows. Codes are 25 characters in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
Method 1: Xbox Console (Recommended)
Redeem your code on Xbox console
- Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide. Navigate to Microsoft Store.

- Scroll down in the Store and select Redeem. Alternatively press the Menu button (three lines) and look for Redeem Code.

- Enter your 25-character code and select Next. The balance or content is applied to your Microsoft account immediately.

Method 2: Web Browser (Easiest — Works on Any Device)
The fastest way to redeem from any device — PC, phone, or tablet — without needing the console on.
- Go to microsoft.com/redeem
- Sign into your Microsoft account
- Enter your 25-character code and click Next
- Confirm — the balance is added to your account instantly

Method 3: Windows PC (Microsoft Store App)
If you're on a Windows PC:
- Open the Microsoft Store app
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner
- Select Redeem code or gift cards
- Enter your 25-character code and click Next

Method 4: Xbox Mobile App
You can also redeem from the Xbox app on iOS or Android:
- Open the Xbox app and sign in
- Tap the profile icon or menu (three lines) in the top corner
- Select Microsoft Account → Redeem code
- Enter your 25-character code and tap Next
Important Things to Know Before Redeeming
- Region locked: Xbox gift cards are region-specific. A US card won't work on a UK Microsoft account. Make sure the card matches your account region.
- Copy and paste your code — never type it manually. Xbox codes are 25 characters and easy to mistype.
- Balance goes to Microsoft account: Once redeemed, the credit sits in your Microsoft account and is used automatically at checkout on Xbox and the Microsoft Store on PC.
- No expiry once redeemed: Microsoft gift card balance does not expire after it's been added to your account.
- Can't be transferred: Balance is tied to the account that redeemed it and cannot be moved to another account.
