How to Fix "PSN Voucher Code Not Valid in Your Region" Error
2 views4 min read

You try to redeem a PSN code and get "The voucher code is incorrect or is no longer valid" — but you've checked the code carefully and it looks fine. The real cause is a region mismatch. PSN voucher codes are locked to a specific region and will not work on an account registered in a different country. A US code will not work on a UK account. A UK code will not work on a EU account. There is no workaround on your existing account — but here's exactly what your options are.
Why PSN Codes Are Region Locked
Every PSN voucher code is tied to a specific PlayStation Store region. This is set by Sony due to licensing agreements and regional pricing differences. When you create a PSN account, your region is locked permanently — you cannot change it later.
This means:
- A US PSN code only works on a US PSN account
- A UK PSN code only works on a UK PSN account
- A EUR PSN code only works on European PSN accounts
- An Asian PSN code only works on Asian PSN accounts
How to Check Your PSN Account Region
Find your PSN account region
- On PS5: Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Country/Region. This shows the region your account is permanently set to.

- On PS4: Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Country/Region.
- On the web: Sign into account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com and check your account details — the country/region is listed there.
- Once you know your account region, compare it to your code's region. The region of a code is usually stated in the product listing or on the physical card. If they don't match — that's your problem.
Option 1: Contact the Seller for a Replacement
The cleanest solution. If the seller sent you a code for the wrong region — or if the listing wasn't clear about the region — contact them with:
- Your order confirmation
- A screenshot of the error
- Your PSN account region (e.g. "My account is set to United Kingdom")
Option 2: Create a Secondary PSN Account for That Region
If you want to use the code rather than return it, you can create a second PSN account set to the code's region. Here's how:
- Create a new PSN account with a spare email address, selecting the region that matches your code
- On your PS5 or PS4, add this as a new user: Settings → Users and Accounts → Add User
- Sign into the new account and redeem the code on it
- Set the new account as the Primary Console account — this allows your main account to access any content purchased or redeemed on it
What NOT to Do
Do not use a VPN to try to bypass the region lock. Using a VPN while redeeming PSN codes violates PlayStation's Terms of Service and can result in your account being restricted or suspended. Sony actively detects VPN usage during store transactions.
You cannot change the region of an existing PSN account. This is a permanent setting locked at account creation. Any website or service claiming to change your PSN region is either a scam or will result in account issues.
How to Avoid This in the Future
Before buying any PSN code:
- Check your PSN region first — Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Country/Region
- Make sure the listing clearly states the region of the code (e.g. "US only", "EU", "UK")
- If the listing doesn't mention a region, ask the seller before buying
- Buy from sellers in your own region to eliminate the risk entirely
