How to Fix PlayStation Error WC-40355-7 "Issue Adding Funds to a Child Account"

3 min read

You try to redeem a PSN card or add funds and get error WC-40355-7: "Issue adding funds to a child account." This error means the account you're signed into is a child/sub-account — and child accounts cannot hold their own wallet funds or redeem voucher codes directly. Here's how the system works and how to fix it.
Why Child Accounts Can't Add Funds
PlayStation's Family Management system works like this:
- The Family Manager (adult master account) has a wallet and controls all spending
- Child accounts do not have their own wallet — they spend from the Family Manager's wallet
- Child accounts cannot redeem voucher codes or PSN cards directly
- The Family Manager sets a monthly spending limit for each child account
This means if you're signed into a child account and try to redeem a PSN card, you will always get WC-40355-7. The fix requires switching to the Family Manager account.
Fix 1: Add Funds from the Family Manager Account
Add wallet funds as the Family Manager
- 01Sign out of the child account. On PS5: Settings → Account Management → Sign Out. On PS4: Settings → PlayStation Network/Account Management → Sign Out.
- 02Sign into the Family Manager account (the adult master account linked to the child account).
- 03Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Wallet → Add Funds. Redeem the PSN card or add funds here on the Family Manager account.
- 04Once funds are added to the Family Manager wallet, sign back into the child account. The child account can now use those funds to make purchases in the PlayStation Store up to the spending limit set by the Family Manager.
Fix 2: Check and Adjust the Child Account Spending Limit
Even with funds in the Family Manager wallet, the child account needs a spending limit set high enough to allow purchases. Here's how to check and adjust it:
On PS5:
- Sign into the Family Manager account
- Go to Settings → Family and Parental Controls → Family Management
- Select the child account
- Find Monthly Spending Limit and adjust it as needed
On the web: Go to playstation.com/account/family, sign in as the Family Manager, select the child account, and adjust the spending limit there.
I'm Getting This Error But I'm NOT on a Child Account
Some users report getting WC-40355-7 even on what they believe is a master/adult account. This can happen when:
- The account was set up as a child account when created (using a birth year under 18) and was never upgraded
- The account is linked to a Family Group as a sub-member without you realising
- There's a PSN server-side issue incorrectly flagging your account
To check your account type, sign into account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com and look at your account details. If it shows as a child account and you're over 18, contact PlayStation Support to have it reviewed — they may be able to upgrade it to an adult account.
