Just bought a Steam game key and not sure how to activate it? Whether you're on PC, browser, or mobile — this guide covers every method. Steam keys are 15–17 character codes in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX that unlock a game and add it permanently to your Steam library.

Method 1: Steam Desktop Client (Recommended)

This is the most reliable method and works for all key types. You need the Steam client installed on your PC.

Activate your key in the Steam client

Open the Steam client on your PC and make sure you're signed in. If you don't have Steam installed, download it from store.steampowered.com.
