FH6 Skill Chain Guide — How to Hit 500K+ Multipliers (And Why You Should Stop There)

7 min read

Skill chains in FH6 work different than most players think. You don't need to hit 500K to max your reward — you need to hit the BASE score that gets multiplied to 500K. With the stock 5x multiplier most cars use, that's 100,000 base. With the Subaru Impreza 22B-STi's Multi Maxer 9x perk, it's only 56,000 base. With a Skill Song playing, you get a 10x cap and can pull 30+ skill points per song. This guide breaks down the mechanics, the best cars for grinding skill points, and exactly where to farm them in Japan.
The Hard Truth — Each Skill Chain Caps at 10 Skill Points
Before you spend an hour going for a 5-million-point megachain — read this.
Every skill chain in FH6 caps payout at 10 Skill Points. It doesn't matter if you score 500,000 points or 5,000,000 — the reward is the same 10 SP. The actual chain score needed to hit the 10 SP cap is roughly 500,000 final score (after multiplier applied).
What this means in practice:
- Stock 5x multiplier car — needs 100,000 BASE score to hit 500K final (10 SP cap)
- 7x multiplier car (Mercedes-AMG ONE, some Forza Editions) — needs ~72,000 base
- 9x multiplier car (Subaru 22B, Lancer Evo 3) — needs only ~56,000 base
- Skill Song active (10x cap) — same base scores but multiplier applies across any car
The strategic implication: push to ~500K final score, BANK the chain, then restart. Pushing past 500K is wasted effort. The mega-chain culture from earlier Forza games doesn't pay in FH6.
The Best Skill Farming Cars Ranked
The 9x multiplier cars dominate the skill farming meta. Two stand out — one cheap, one free.
1998 Subaru Impreza 22B-STi Version — 9x Multi Maxer perk. Available from the Autoshow for just 86,000 CR. The Multi Maxer perk unlocks a 9x skill multiplier (vs the standard 5x). Pair it with Where The Fun Begins (skill multiplier builds 2.5x faster) and Extra Life (survive 2 crashes before chain breaks) and you have the most efficient skill farming car in the game. Roughly 30 SP investment in Car Mastery to fully unlock.
1995 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III — 9x multiplier, free treasure car. Same 9x multiplier as the Subaru and the 2.5x faster perk, but it's a Treasure Car — meaning any player can find it on the map for free. Slightly slower than the Subaru but spins out less, which actually helps long chains. If you're broke and want max skill efficiency without spending credits, this is the pick.
2021 Mercedes-AMG ONE — 7x multiplier, Game Pass FH5 transfer bonus. If you played FH5 with Game Pass, the AMG ONE transfers as a launch bonus. The 7x multiplier is weaker than 9x but the 200mph+ top speed makes it the best car for the Ultra Fast Colossus auto-drive method (set acceleration trigger with a hair band, walk away).
Forza Edition cars (various 6-8x multipliers). Forza Editions have modified Car Mastery trees with bonus skill multipliers. Subaru BRZ Forza Edition is excellent for mountain regions. Ford F-150 Raptor Forza Edition + Toyota Tacoma Forza Edition work for cross-country destruction chains. Hunt these on the Auction House — filter "Forza Edition" under advanced search.
The Three Critical Car Mastery Perks
Multi Maxer — unlocks 9x multiplier cap (vs standard 5x). Available on Subaru 22B, Lancer Evo 3, and select other cars. Always prioritize this first.
Where The Fun Begins — skill multiplier builds 2.5x faster. Means you reach the 9x cap in roughly 40% less time per chain. Second priority after Multi Maxer.
Extra Life — your skill chain survives ONE crash before breaking (requires two crashes to fail instead of one). Costs 25 SP to unlock per car. Critical safety net for long chains in tight environments.
Skill Songs — The Free 10x Multiplier From Your Radio
This is the mechanic most players miss. Skill Songs temporarily boost the skill multiplier cap from 5x (or your car's max) to 10x across ANY car, lasting the full 3-5 minute song duration.
How to spot a Skill Song: the radio DJ announces it before the track starts ("Up next, a skill song!"). A special multiplier icon appears in the HUD when the song is active. The radio stations most likely to trigger Skill Songs in FH6 are Horizon Block Party, Radio Wave, and Horizon Opus.
The math during a Skill Song: 10x cap means you only need 50,000 base score to hit the 500K cap. With the Subaru 22B already at 9x, the Skill Song bumps it to 10x AND raises the cap, letting you cycle chains faster. Players regularly pull 30+ SP per Skill Song if they're already grinding when one starts.
Strategic move: if you hear the DJ announce a Skill Song, drop whatever you're doing and start grinding. Free 3-5 minutes of double-cap multiplier is more valuable than completing whatever race you were headed to.
The Three Best Skill Chain Farming Locations in Japan
South of Shimanoyama — rice paddies and forest combo. This is the community consensus best spot. The rice paddies let you sustain long drift chains across flat terrain, then the surrounding forest gives you wreckage smash combos from destructible trees. Almost every tree in FH6 is destructible, so the risk of slamming into an immovable object is dramatically lower than in FH5. Drift + smash + drift cycle works perfectly here.
Mountain Festival donut + mountain loops. The Horizon Festival starting hub has a wide-open donut area surrounded by mountain switchbacks. Best for pure drift chains if you want to skip the wreckage element entirely. Useful for skill chain achievements that demand high drift scores specifically.
Bamboo forest near any Speed Zone. Bamboo is fully destructible AND densely packed, creating a near-continuous wreckage chain. Pair with a Speed Zone for built-in speed bonuses. Top community pick for the Ultimate Skill Chain daily challenge (which requires 20,000+ points from one chain).
The EventLab Method — Custom Tracks Built for Skill Farming
Skip the open-world risk entirely. The Creative Hub has dozens of community-built EventLab tracks designed specifically for skill farming — usually short circuits lined with destructible props you smash through at speed.
The best verified working skill farm EventLab share codes (June 2026):
- 197 337 317 — primary AFK skill farm (10 SP per 21 seconds when fully set up)
- 121 812 769 — backup AFK skill farm
- Tune code 122 378 124 — Subaru 22B optimized for the above tracks
For a deep dive on the AFK setup — hair band on the controller, fresh Subaru 22B from Autoshow, full Multi Maxer + Where The Fun Begins + Extra Life + Super Wheelspin perks unlocked — see our FH6 AFK Credit Farm EventLab Codes guide.
What Counts as a "Skill" — Skill Type Breakdown
The game rewards eight distinct skill types. Chain them together to maximize multiplier build speed.
Drifts — sustained controlled slides. Drift-friendly cars (Mazda RX-7, Nissan Silvia S15, AE86 Trueno) generate massive drift scores per second. The fastest multiplier build for most cars.
Wreckage smashes — hitting barriers, fences, traffic cones, destructible trees. The Shimanoyama forest is built for this.
Near misses — passing close to oncoming traffic or stationary objects at speed. Tokyo highway sections are ideal but riskier.
Jumps and Air Time — hitting ramps, hills, off-road launches. Mountain Festival area has natural air opportunities.
Drafting — following closely behind other cars in races. Builds passive multiplier during racing events.
Clean Racing — maintaining a clean racing line without hitting walls during events. Slow build but contributes during long races.
Speed bonuses — sustained high speed (200mph+) triggers Speed Skill bonuses. The Mercedes-AMG ONE excels here.
Sideswipes — glancing collisions with destructible objects that don't break your chain. Formula Drift cars chain these consistently.
Common Mistakes That Reset Your Multiplier
Hitting a non-destructible object. Solid buildings, road signs, and immovable posts immediately break your chain. The bamboo forest is safer than urban Tokyo for sustained chains.
Entering an event from free roam. Starting a race auto-banks your chain. If you're at 480K and one drift away from the 500K cap, finish the chain BEFORE accepting the race invite.
Waiting too long between skills. The chain has a hidden timer — stop performing skills for more than a few seconds and the chain expires. Keep moving, keep drifting, keep smashing.
Selling a car resets its Mastery tree. The new Auction House buyer gets a fresh unclaimed Car Mastery tree. Think twice before selling a fully-grinded Subaru 22B — you'll restart from zero on the next one.
Hitting another car in traffic. Other player cars and AI traffic count as immovable objects for skill chain purposes. Stay off the highways during peak farming runs.
The Bottom Line — Skill Chain Strategy
For grinding skill points fast: buy or claim the Subaru Impreza 22B-STi Version (or grab the Lancer Evo 3 treasure car for free), spend your first 30 SP unlocking Multi Maxer + Where The Fun Begins + Extra Life, drive to Shimanoyama south, keep your radio on Horizon Block Party or Radio Wave, and farm 500K chains in roughly 60-90 seconds each. Stop pushing past 500K — the 10 SP cap is hard. Bank, restart, repeat.
For pure passive farming: hair band on the controller, EventLab share code 197 337 317, fully unlocked Subaru 22B. 10 SP per 21 seconds means roughly 30 SP per minute, 1,800 SP per hour while you do literally nothing.
For maximum Skill Song uptime: keep your radio active during ALL free roam time. Even when not actively farming, the 10x cap during a Skill Song means a casual cruise can drop 10+ SP without trying.
